1. What the SEO Agent does

The SEO Agent is an always-on AI strategist that handles the full SEO lifecycle autonomously — from fixing missing meta tags to generating entire content libraries at scale. It runs on a schedule, responds to your questions in chat, and surfaces opportunities before you even think to look.

Autonomous capabilities (no prompting required)

On-demand tools (triggered from the Tools panel or chat)

Every capability is also available on demand from the SEO Tools panel on your agent's detail page, or by typing a request in the chat. Results always appear in the chat window.

2. Autonomous fixes

The agent can apply safe SEO fixes automatically — without waiting for your instruction. Every autonomous fix is policy-gated (you control what it can do), logged to the knowledge strand, and reported in the next daily email.

What the agent fixes automatically

Fix typeHow it worksRequires
Missing / weak meta titlesLLM generates an optimised title (50–60 chars). Written via CMS API or GitHub PR.CMS or GitHub connected
Missing meta descriptionsLLM generates a description (120–155 chars) with a CTA.CMS or GitHub connected
Missing JSON-LD schemaGenerates schema.org structured data appropriate to the page type. Opens GitHub PR.GitHub connected
Crawl error resubmissionPushes 404 URLs back to GSC for re-indexing after you fix the underlying page.GSC connected
Dead URLs in sitemapStrips 404 URLs from sitemap.xml and opens a GitHub PR.GitHub connected

How to control what the agent fixes

Use the Policies tab on your agent's detail page to restrict or require approval for any fix type. Or tell the agent directly:

"Never auto-fix meta titles on /blog/* pages — I want to approve those manually. Auto-fixing schema is fine everywhere."
Tip: The agent will not overwrite a meta title that is already 50+ characters and includes a keyword. Auto-fix only targets clearly missing or very short tags (under 20 chars).

Propose a fix (approval required)

For more significant changes — a rewritten H1, a new redirect, a content restructure — the agent proposes the fix and emails you an approve / reject button. The change only executes after you approve.

"Propose a fix for the title tag on /pricing. The current title is just 'Pricing' — suggest something better targeting 'project management software pricing'."

3. Keyword research & gap analysis

The agent compares your current Google Search Console rankings against competitor organic keywords to find the gaps — keywords they rank for that you don't. Results are grouped by topic cluster and scored by opportunity.

Run a keyword gap analysis

Open the Research tab in the SEO Tools panel, or type in chat:

"Run a keyword gap analysis against competitor1.com and competitor2.com."

The agent fetches your competitor's top organic keywords (via DataForSEO, Ahrefs, or SEMrush), cross-references them against your GSC data, and returns prioritised gaps with volume, difficulty, and an opportunity score.

Understanding opportunity scores

Score rangeInterpretation
80–100High volume, low difficulty, competitor ranks top 3 — act immediately
50–79Good opportunity — fits your content plan this quarter
20–49Low volume or high difficulty — consider for long-term authority building
0–19Low priority — monitor but don't invest resources now

Cluster keywords into topic groups

After a gap analysis (or with any keyword list), ask the agent to group them:

"Cluster these keywords into topic groups: best CRM software, CRM for small business, free CRM tools, HubSpot alternative, Salesforce pricing."

Generate a content brief for any keyword

Use the Content tab → Keyword Content Brief, or:

"Write a content brief for 'best invoicing software for freelancers' — volume ~1,200/month, difficulty 38."

The brief includes: title tag, meta description, recommended word count, H2 structure, 6–8 LSI keywords, content angle vs the current top 3 results, internal linking suggestions, schema type recommendation, and a CTA.

4. Content creation & optimization

Draft a full SEO article

Use the Content tab → Draft Content Page, or:

"Draft an SEO article targeting 'how to improve website speed'. Volume ~800/month."

The agent generates a complete Markdown article (~1,400 words) with YAML frontmatter, title, meta, H2 structure, body copy, and an FAQ section. If GitHub is connected it opens a pull request automatically — review and merge when ready.

Generate a FAQ section with JSON-LD schema

"Generate 6 FAQ questions for the topic 'how to choose project management software' with JSON-LD FAQPage schema."

The agent returns the Q&A pairs plus a ready-to-paste <script type="application/ld+json"> block. Add it to your page <head> to become eligible for FAQ rich results.

Refresh underperforming pages

The agent identifies pages stuck in positions 5–20 with below-average CTR and generates improved titles, descriptions, and content gap recommendations.

"Refresh underperforming pages for my site."

— or target a specific page: —

"Refresh /blog/remote-work-tips — it's sitting at position 8 with 1.2% CTR."

Content planning (automated, weekly)

Every Friday the agent automatically picks the top quick-win keywords from the latest gap analysis, drafts full articles for each, and — if GitHub is connected — opens a single PR with all the files. Check your email Friday afternoon for the content plan summary.

5. SERP targeting & rank tracking

Track specific keywords

Set a watchlist of keywords you care about. The agent fetches fresh positions from GSC every Tuesday and sends a movement report.

"Track these keywords: 'project management software', 'team task manager', 'free project tracker'."

You can also do this from Rankings tab → Track Keywords without typing.

Reading the rank movement report

DirectionThresholdMeaning
Improved ↑Delta < −1 positionKeyword moved up — content is gaining authority
Declined ↓Delta > +1 positionKeyword slipped — investigate for content or technical issues
Stable →±1 positionNormal fluctuation — no action needed

Find SERP feature opportunities

The agent analyses your GSC queries to find where you can win Featured Snippets, People Also Ask boxes, FAQ schema, or How-To schema.

"Find SERP feature opportunities for my site."

It targets positions 2–10 with 50+ impressions for featured snippets, and question-format queries with 30+ impressions for PAA and FAQ schema.

Check rank history at any time

"Show the current tracked keyword positions and how they've moved."

6. Technical SEO audit

The agent runs a full technical crawl on the 1st of every month, checking up to 20 pages from your sitemap. It also runs on demand from the Performance tab → Technical SEO Audit.

What is checked on every page

CheckWhat it detectsImpact
HTTPSHTTP pages that should be served over HTTPSSecurity + ranking signal
Canonical tagMissing, malformed, or non-self-referencing canonicalDuplicate content risk
Meta robotsnoindex set on pages that should be indexedPages excluded from Google
Redirect chainsMulti-hop redirects (A→B→C instead of A→C)Lost link equity + slower crawling
JSON-LD structured dataPages with no schema markupMissed rich result eligibility
Robots.txtGooglebot blocked accidentallyEntire site de-indexed
Sitemap healthSitemap present and URL countCrawl efficiency

Understanding the audit score

The audit produces a score out of 100, calculated as:

HTTPS pages × 25 points
Canonical accuracy × 25 points
Schema coverage × 25 points
No redirect chains × 25 points (−3 per chain found)
ScoreInterpretation
90–100Excellent — only minor improvements possible
70–89Good — a few specific issues to address
50–69Needs work — at least one significant technical problem
< 50Critical — likely losing ranking due to technical issues
Run it now: Go to Performance tab → Technical SEO Audit → Run. Results appear in chat within 30–60 seconds.

7. Topical authority analysis

Topical authority is Google's measure of how comprehensively your site covers a subject. The agent groups all your ranking queries into topic clusters, shows your coverage percentage per cluster, and identifies the exact content gaps you need to fill to dominate each topic.

How to run the analysis

It runs automatically every quarter (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct). To run it now:

"Analyze the topical authority for my site."

Reading the report

FieldWhat it means
Pillar topicThe main theme of this cluster (e.g. "Web Performance")
Pillar keywordThe best primary keyword for a comprehensive pillar page on this topic
Coverage %How many sub-topics in this cluster you already have content for
Content gaps3–5 related keywords the site is not covering — highest-priority new pages to write
PriorityHigh = largest traffic opportunity or widest gap; Medium/Low = secondary
Strategy tip: Focus on clusters where coverage is 30–70%. At <30% Google doesn't see you as an authority yet. At >70% you're already doing well — incremental gains are diminishing.

8. Programmatic SEO

Programmatic SEO lets you create hundreds of targeted landing pages from a single template — one page per location, per tool, per comparison, or per category. The agent generates the template, writes unique content for each variant, and opens a single GitHub PR with all the files.

When to use programmatic SEO

Page typeExample variablesExample URL pattern
Best X toolsPython, JavaScript, TypeScript/best-python-testing-tools
X alternativesAsana, Monday, Jira/asana-alternatives
X vs YNotion vs Confluence, Slack vs Teams/notion-vs-confluence
X for [location]New York, London, Austin/accounting-software-new-york
X pricingHubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive/hubspot-pricing

How to generate programmatic pages

Open Content tab → Programmatic SEO Pages, fill in the page type and variables, then click Ask agent. Or via chat:

"Generate programmatic SEO pages — page type: 'best {{variable}} testing tools', variables: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Rust."

What the agent generates

For each variable the agent creates a Markdown file with:

---
title: "Best Python Testing Tools | YourSite"
description: "Compare the top Python testing tools in 2025..."
slug: "best-python-testing-tools"
schema_type: "Article"
generated: true
---

# Best Python Testing Tools

[~400–600 words of unique, helpful content per variant]

All files land in a single PR under content/programmatic/. Review, merge, and your CMS picks them up.

GitHub required. Connect GitHub in your integrations for the PR to be created. Without it the agent returns the generated content in chat for you to copy manually.

9. GA4 & Bing analytics

Google Analytics 4 traffic

With GA4 connected, the agent includes traffic-by-channel data in the Thursday weekly digest and on demand:

"Show GA4 traffic data for the last 28 days."

Returns sessions broken down by: Organic, Direct, Referral, Social, Paid, and Other — plus top pages by sessions with bounce rate.

Bing Webmaster Tools

With Bing connected, the Thursday digest also includes Bing ranking data:

"Show Bing Webmaster Tools data for my site."

Returns: top Bing queries by clicks and impressions, average position per query, and any Bing crawl errors detected.

How to connect GA4 and Bing

Go to your agent's detail page → click Edit integrations on your website connection → fill in GA4 or Bing credentials and save. Alternatively, add them during the initial hire step under Additional integrations.

IntegrationWhat you need
GA4A Google service account with Viewer role on your GA4 property (same type as GSC — just a different property)
Bing WebmasterBing Webmaster Tools API key — Settings → API Access → Generate API key

Internal links distribute PageRank across your site and help Google understand your content hierarchy. The agent crawls your sitemap, cross-references GSC impressions to find high-value pages, and identifies exactly which pages need more inbound links — and which existing pages should link to them.

How to run internal link analysis

Available on Advanced tab → Internal Link Analysis (Studio tier), or:

"Analyse the internal link structure for my site."

Reading the output

FieldWhat it meansAction
High-value underlinked pagesPages with strong GSC impressions but few inbound linksAdd links from other pages to these
Link suggestion: From → ToSpecific page pair where a link should be addedEdit the "From" page and add an anchor link
ReasonWhy the agent thinks this link is valuable (topic relevance, authority flow)Use this to write the anchor text

If GitHub is connected the agent also opens a GitHub issue with all suggestions formatted as a checklist so your developer can work through them.

Why internal linking matters: Pages with fewer than 2 internal inbound links are often called "orphan pages" — Google crawls them infrequently and they accumulate very little PageRank even if the content is good.

11. On-page SEO audits

The agent crawls your site every Wednesday and audits every page for the factors Google uses to evaluate quality and relevance. Issues are grouped by severity and sent in the weekly report.

What is checked on each page

CheckIdeal stateCommon issue
Title tag50–60 characters, includes primary keywordMissing, too long, or duplicate across pages
Meta description140–160 characters, compelling CTAMissing, truncated, or auto-generated
H1 tagExactly one, matches page intentMultiple H1s or no H1
Canonical URLSelf-referencing or points to preferred URLMissing or pointing to wrong URL
Structured data (JSON-LD)Valid schema.org markupSchema validation errors
Content lengthDepends on intent — checked vs competitorsThin content (< 300 words for informational pages)
noindexOnly set on pages that should be excludedAccidentally noindexing key landing pages

How to request a page audit

"Audit the page at myapp.com/blog/team-productivity for the keyword 'team productivity tips'. Tell me what to fix to rank higher."

12. Core Web Vitals

Core Web Vitals are Google's official page experience signals. The SEO Agent monitors CWV scores via PageSpeed Insights and alerts you when any key page falls below threshold.

The three signals and thresholds

LCP
Largest Contentful Paint
Good: ≤ 2.5s
Poor: > 4.0s

How fast the main content loads.

CLS
Cumulative Layout Shift
Good: ≤ 0.1
Poor: > 0.25

How much the page layout shifts unexpectedly.

INP
Interaction to Next Paint
Good: ≤ 200ms
Poor: > 500ms

How responsive the page is to user input.

Run a PageSpeed audit now: Go to the Performance tab → PageSpeed Insights → choose mobile, desktop, or both → Run.

Broken links hurt both user experience and crawl budget. The agent checks every internal and external link every Thursday and alerts you when any returns a non-200 response.

ResponseWhat it meansAgent action
200 OKLink is healthyNo action
301/302Redirect — may lose link equityWeekly report flag
404 Not FoundBroken linkImmediate alert + suggested fix
5xx Server ErrorDestination server errorRetry 3×, then alert if still failing
Tip: When you delete or rename a page, tell the agent: "I deleted /old-pricing and redirected it to /pricing." This prevents false-positive alerts during site restructuring.

14. Outreach campaigns Pro+

On Pro and Studio tiers, the agent discovers backlink opportunities by analysing competitor referring domains, drafts personalised pitches, and sends them for your approval before any email goes out.

⚠ Review before sending. All outreach emails require your approval by default. The agent emails you a preview with an Approve button — nothing is sent until you click it.

How to start an outreach campaign

"Discover backlink outreach targets using competitor domains: competitor1.com, competitor2.com."

Or from the Research tab → Discover Outreach Targets.

Check campaign status

"Show the outreach campaign status for my site."

Returns a breakdown of how many pitches are pending approval, sent, replied to, and converted.

15. Tools quick reference

All tools are available from the SEO Tools panel on your agent's detail page. They can also be triggered by typing a request in chat — the agent routes your message to the right tool automatically.

18. Best practices

Getting started right

When you first hire the SEO Agent, orient it with full context:

"My site is myapp.com — a B2B SaaS tool for project management. Primary audience: mid-size teams, 20–200 people. Main competitors: Asana, Monday.com, Notion. Top 10 keywords I care about: [list]. Please start with a full technical audit, then run a keyword gap analysis against our competitors."

Connect all integrations on day one

IntegrationWhat it unlocks
Google Search Console (GSC)Keyword positions, index coverage, SERP tools, rank tracking, content refresh
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)Traffic by channel, top pages, bounce rate in the weekly digest
Bing Webmaster ToolsBing queries, Bing crawl errors — 20–30% of searches happen on Bing
GitHubAuto-PR for content drafts, meta fixes, schema injection, programmatic pages, sitemap cleanup
DataForSEO / Ahrefs / SEMrushKeyword gap analysis, opportunity scoring, keyword difficulty + volume data

Use the Tools panel for quick actions

The SEO Tools panel on your agent's detail page lets you trigger any tool with a single click — no need to type a message. Results always appear in the chat so you can ask follow-up questions in context.

Let the agent propose before you act

When you're unsure about a change, use propose a fix rather than asking the agent to change something directly. The agent will show you exactly what it wants to change and why — you approve with one click from your email.

20. Troubleshooting

SERP tools return no data

Most SERP tools require Google Search Console to be connected. Go to your website connection → Edit integrations → add your GSC service account credentials. The agent auto-detects the property from your site URL.

Keyword gap returns 0 gaps

The gap analysis requires a backlink data provider (DataForSEO, Ahrefs, or SEMrush) to fetch competitor keywords. Connect one in your website integrations. The agent will tell you explicitly if it's missing credentials.

Programmatic pages not creating a PR

GitHub credentials must be connected. Without them the agent returns the generated Markdown in chat for manual copy-paste. Connect GitHub from your website's Edit integrations panel, then re-run the tool.

Technical audit takes a long time

The audit fetches up to 20 pages in parallel (10-second timeout each). For sites that are slow to respond or behind heavy CDN caching, some pages may time out. The agent skips timed-out pages and still scores the successfully checked ones. Ask: "Which pages failed the technical audit?" to see which URLs were skipped.

GA4 or Bing shows "no data available"

For GA4: ensure the service account has at minimum Viewer role on the GA4 property, and that you've entered the correct Property ID (numeric, e.g. 123456789 — not the Measurement ID G-XXXXXXXX).

For Bing: regenerate your API key in Bing Webmaster Tools → Settings → API Access. Keys occasionally expire or get rate-limited.

Too many autonomous fix notifications

Tell the agent to throttle fixes: "Only auto-fix meta issues if the page has fewer than 30 characters in the title and zero meta description. Otherwise propose the fix for my approval." You can also use the Policies tab to add a require_approval rule on AUTO_FIX_META.

Topical authority shows 0 clusters

The topical authority tool needs at least 10 queries with 10+ impressions in GSC. If your site is new or low-traffic, there may not be enough data yet. Wait until GSC has at least 30 days of data and run it again.

A ranking drop that looks like a Google algorithm update

On Studio, the agent automatically detects algorithm updates by comparing your weekly click totals to the prior week. For other tiers, ask: "Was there a Google algorithm update recently? Is our drop site-specific or industry-wide?"
